In our free consultation I answer any questions you may have, we review your goals, and we assess the therapeutic fit. If you feel comfortable and would like to continue we discuss scheduling and payment.
During our first appointment, I gather your past family history, your interpersonal history, formally document your goals, and create a safety plan if necessary.
In the initial stage of therapy we work towards finding relief from your stress and build therapeutic rapport. This can be the most time consuming stage of therapy.
During the maintenance stage you'll find yourself coming to session without distress, feeling relatively well, through this period of time you have gotten to know me and I've gotten to know you. When we notice a pattern of you feeling well and overcoming past barriers we have entered this stage and begin a conversation revolving the termination of therapy.
Alas! the best part of therapy. You fire me! When the day comes, when you've been feeling well, past triggers are no longer triggers, and coming to therapy is similar to grabbing coffee with a friend. We've reached the point where we can say "You did it".
